When I'm shooting an extended family I kind of have to let the perfectionist photographer in me go. Schedules are tight and attention spans are short so I roll with whatever the kids give me, creating images that showcase how life really was at that moment in time. These moments come in between the posed photos and they are usually my very favorite.
Last night we went out just before the craziest thunderstorm of the season to take Finley's photos for her LDS baptism announcements. The night was gorgeous and I love how the breeze brought beautiful movement to the image. I normally don't like to shoot in the wind but it worked perfectly with her long blonde hair.
I look forward to my trip to the greenhouse all winter. I'm usually filling up my wagon with all sorts of fun things for my garden. Two weeks ago I ended up at the greenhouse three times with my wagon filled with camera gear or cute little babies, never buying a thing. I'm lucky they didn't kick me out. This week I'll make it up to them.
I don't know if I will ever get to shoot in fog like this again. We don't get this type of weather in Idaho very often and usually I'm shooting in the evenings when it has all burned off. We started out in the living room mid-day then headed outside to this cool scene.
Fun shoot with this family while everyone is home for Christmas. We lucked out with a beautiful white backdrop.
This beauty is a comedy writer in LA. I was nervous going into it thinking that I would have to be genuinely funny to get natural smiles. Usually potty jokes do the trick. The chickens and bunnies helped me out, I mean, what's not to love about being swarmed by animals while you're trying to pose for a photo?
This little doll is my newest niece. She's just perfect.
We'd had this session scheduled for months. You never know when and where the leaves will turn. Luckily, we landed on a perfect night with great weather and found where the trees were at their finest.
I was in Las Vegas recently taking photos of my new niece. I had an extra few hours to shoot this family at their home. It worked so much better than any of the locations I was scouting. I was struggling to find a great spot in the dessert.
I loved how these colors looked with the hues at the barn the evening we shot these photos. These kids were a ton of fun.
This evening in August the sky will heavy with smoke from the forest fires. We started a little earlier than normal and took advantage of the slight pink filter it gave us.
